IT Manager (Cloud Engineering)

Position manages a "2-pizza team" of experienced engineers in the development, implementation, and support of AutoZone’s cloud native computing platforms. Works closely with IT partners to ensure that new capabilities meet the practical needs of the company and with support teams to ensure operational stability.

Your Role:

We are seeking a Cloud Engineering Manager who is ready to develop the people and talent on their team and around them. A leader ready to enable infrastructure to be deployed and changed by code. A leader ready to push AutoZone into the next frontier of public cloud.

You enjoy keeping up-to-date on the diversity of tasks being organized and executed by the self-directed team under your leadership and using project/product management skills to help keep things organized. You can write a script to automate a task or write a project plan for complex upgrades. Your communication skills are solid, and you relish an opportunity to talk to other teams about how you and your teams can help them, but you also can sit and listen to team members in one-on-ones, helping them to shape their own future through coaching and training.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with internal customers such as developers, InfoSec, Enterprise Architecture, and Network teams
  • Architectural design and influence
  • Metric driven and focused on continual improvement
  • Comfortable collaborating and working with distributed teams
  • Strong expertise in leveraging a wide variety of open source technologies
  • Lead and grow a team of cloud engineers
  • Conduct 1:1s with all staff
  • Ensure team responds and resolves cloud issues in a timely manner
  • Mentor and coach staff to improve performance and to develop higher level skills
  • Manage performance to ensure team and individuals meet customer SLAs

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Computer Science, Information Technology or related is required
  • 5+ years experience leading or managing a team of engineers
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and a proven ability to build strong relationships and trust throughout the organization, including with senior leadership
  • Proven experience working in private and public Cloud/IaaS environments such as GCP, AWS, Azure, or Cloud Foundry
  • Proven experience with running production data centers in the cloud
  • Demonstrated ability in people management, strategic planning, risk management, change management, and project management
  • Experience using one or more Configuration Management tools such as CloudFormation, TerraForm, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Pulumi or similar
  • Extensive knowledge of Linux Administration and Engineering
  • Experience working with and automating enterprise scale infrastructure and virtualization technologies, such as Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Proven working experience with infrastructure as code building CI/CD pipelines, from a greenfield scenario
  • Experience building and using dashboards to drive decisions and view the technical environments
  • Experience leading a team of self-directed individuals towards common goals.
  • Well-organized project skills. Spreadsheets, Kanban boards and experience with product Management principles
