GIS Programmer/Analyst
The City of Newport News Waterworks Department is recruiting for a GIS Programmer/Analyst.
Under general supervision, this position researches, designs, implements, and supports software solutions for data analysts in a Geographic Information System (GIS). Reports to the GIS Manager.

Develops and maintains GIS software applications; completes application design, coding, testing, debugging, documenting and all related tasks. Collaborates with users to identify, isolate, and resolve business problems or improve departmental processes. Serves as project manager on GIS related teams. Designs and maintains GIS user interfaces including designing and building maps, forms and reports. Provides technical support and training on GIS processes, procedures, and technologies. Provides data in support of emergency operations. Supplies data and maps to customers per partnership agreements and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. Remains abreast of current and future issues and trends related to software development, desktop computer technologies and project management.

Requires a Bachelors Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Cartography, Engineering or a closely related field with 1-2 years related experience in systems analysis and computer systems applications and programming, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in the GIS field and Waterworks is preferred.
