Job Description:

We celebrate 75 years supporting global initiatives in infrastructure, water, energy, power, renewables, environmental, healthcare, education, and communications.    Parsons is looking to hire a full-time Sr. System Administrator to work in our Markham, ON office.  In this role, you will be continuously driven to improve IT processes for improved performance.  Develop strategy and create metrics to measure the effectiveness of strategy.  Performs application monitoring and performance tuning.  Perform operating system software updates, upgrades, and patches.  Performs administration activities such as setting user accounts, roles, access, and privileges

IT SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR TASKS

  • Design, deployment, and management of complex application and IT infrastructures
  • Develop and maintain detailed maintenance and contingency plans and documentation for server infrastructure
  • Ensures compliance with uptime and performance standards and develops system and product benchmarking and monitoring
  • Ensures compliance to company IT security policies and standards
  • Ability to design technical IT solutions and provide specifications and pricing for equipment and COTS software, that meet project requirements.
  • Building, configuring, patching, upgrading and troubleshooting of physical and virtual Linux servers (rack mounts/blades, and VMs) for Windows and Linux  
  • Taking care of backup, off-site tape storage, inventory-asset management
  • Ability to manage and support database deployments and operations. (monitoring, backup, restore, cluster/replication configuration)
  • Monitor server event logs, performance logs, growth of data on the network, and checking the status of nightly server backups
  • Investigating, resolving and closing user reported problems and application issues through our ticketing system
  • Providing a high level of customer service at all times
  • Performs day-to-day maintenance and installation of the server, network equipment, virtual machines, messaging, backups and storage
  • Work on moderately complex assignments, using judgment to resolve problems and make routine recommendations
  • Create scripts to manage and monitor applications and systems.
  • Configure system monitors and alerts using common network monitor applications
  • Installing, configuring and deploying new PCs & Servers
  • Supporting users in the use of computer equipment by providing necessary training and advice
  • Provide detailed project status reporting as directed by management

Desired Qualifications and Certifications

  • Associate level certification or higher from Cisco, Juniper, or Palo-Alto
  • Microsoft MTA in network, security, or administration fundamentals
  • security +, CLOUD +, AWS, or azure certification
  • Linux Foundation certification
