Purpose of Role

The QC Technician is responsible and accountable for supporting the Red Collar Pet Foods Quality and Food Safety principles through monitoring and inspecting process and packaging processes according to Q&FS policies and procedures, and QMP standards. They will manage the testing requirements for the positive release programs. This position supports R&D with product development.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Adhere to personal safety practices that meet OSHA & Mars standards to assure a safe environment for associate and others; Maintain open communication with site safety committee and site safety manager as appropriate for the role
  • Complete analytical testing and evaluation of raw materials and finished products as required by Q&FS policies and procedures
  • Monitoring and inspecting processes according to Q&FS policies and procedures, and QMP standards. This includes, but are not limited to:

Positive Release Programs

  • Actively participate in continuous improvement projects through proactive and reactive efforts including incident investigation and implementation of corrective/preventive actions pertaining to Q&FS
  • Maintain continuous communication with site functional teams to assure complete awareness of the manufacturing process in compliance with Q&FS and performance objectives
  • Participate in the development, revision, and training of mission critical competencies as related to the responsibilities and accountabilities of the position
  • Demonstrate a quality culture in actions, words and spirit
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management
  • Responsible for reporting and following up on any observation that may impact associate safety and/or product Quality and Food Safety
  • Auditing of production documentation to evaluate if product is able to be released
  • Productive and safe work habits

  • Wearing proper personal protective equipment (hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform)

  • Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot to cold, dust dirt and chemicals
  • Q&FS testing practices and procedures, QMP polices and SPC
  • Forklift assignments require OSHA certification and getting on and off frequently

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Effective verbal & written communication skills
  • Effective analytical, troubleshooting, and computer skills
  • Ability to work independently without supervision as well as within a team setting
  • Effective verbal & written communication skills with a good understanding and command of Microsoft programs Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work independently without supervision as well as within a team setting
  • Physical requirements: Sufficient mobility, strength, flexibility, hearing, and sight to access all job relevant areas and perform routine activities as necessary to deliver required results. Some pushing/pulling, bending/stooping, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.) necessary
  • 10% travel is required for this role
  • Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year food related experience
  • Working Knowledge of food safety, GMP, GHOP, HACCP, SPC
  • Demonstrated competency in computer and pc software including MS Office and email
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles
  • Experience with JD Edwards
