Senior Controls Engineer

This position has responsibility for systems optimization, compliance, personnel safety and technician skill development relative to plant electrical power and process control systems. This position assumes a leadership role with regard to control systems, equipment specification and maintenance, proper operation, technician development, troubleshooting and repair to achieve or exceed reliability targets.


  • Provides leadership for renewal of and compliance to Plant Electrical Standards, –   Electrical Power Safety, OSHA 29 1910.269 and NFPA 70E
  • Serves as primary administrator and direction setter for plant control systems (FTView, FT Historian, WW, VMware, ACP Thin Manager, PLCs and Motion Controls)
  • Provides coaching for C&IS teams in implementing sustainable systems for plant E&I skill development
  • Builds and maintains a sustainable process control onboarding system for plant C&IS team, Interns and Area Leaders, as well as, ongoing coaching and development of Process & Packing Engineers and Interns
  • Owner of the plant Electrical BCP (Business Continuity Planning) recovery effort
  • Resource to the Plant ESO (Electrical Safety Owner) and Corporate Power Owner on power system standards and technical documentation for these systems
  • Provides expertise in the design and implementation of process automation applications, such as control strategies, HMI design, MES applications and KPI development
  • Works with Plant Engineering, E&I coordinators and technicians to Identify losses and develop plans or strategies to eliminate them, in the areas of safety, quality, reliability and cost
  • Works with Engineering IS team to maintain and update plant servers, networks and IS infrastructure for FactoryTalk, Wonderware and interface with Proficy Historian
  • Works closely with Engineering and Operations leaders on selection and installation/start-up of new equipment; is the technical expert on new equipment and insures the training of others with regard to control systems
  • Serves as Lead C&IS Engineer and/or Project Manager for projects ranging from small E&I focus to Major Capital Initiatives
  • Coach and trainer for the C&IS Capital Project Delivery Process and manages electrical workload planning
  • Sponsor for Contract Electrical Engineering and Electrical Construction resourcing plans


  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar is required


  • At least 5 years of Power and Controls experience in a manufacturing environment is require
  • Prior electrical engineering experience in the food industry
  • Previous experience in Project Management and/or Project Delivery is preferred


  • Strong knowledge of process control hardware, instrumentation and software including PLC platforms
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and OSHA 29 1910.269
  • Understands technical systems and terminology
  • Experience learning and integrating new technologies
  • Experience leading the installation of equipment in food manufacturing environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work and manage effectively within a team environment

  • Effective presentation, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Able to perform moderate activity including but not limited to, significant time spent on manufacturing floor and some physical work on equipment
