Job Description

#WeAreCrowdStrike and our mission is to stop breaches. As a global leader in cybersecurity, our team changed the game. Since our inception, our market leading cloud-native platform has offered unparalleled protection against the most sophisticated cyberattacks. We’re looking for people with limitless passion, a relentless focus on innovation and a fanatical commitment to the customer to join us in shaping the future of cybersecurity. Consistently recognized as a top workplace, CrowdStrike is committed to cultivating an inclusive, remote-first culture that offers people the autonomy and flexibility to balance the needs of work and life while taking their career to the next level. Interested in working for a company that sets the standard and leads with integrity? Join us on a mission that matters – one team, one fight. About the Team: CrowdStrike’s Event Afterlife (AFT) team is part of the Detections Platform product group. We are extending the Falcon sensor endpoint platform by creating a framework around a new data repository, which will bring a litany of new detect and investigation capabilities for our own teams and partners alike. The AFT team currently designs and develops features for our cross-platform kernel and user mode sensors and will eventually extend into cloud and UI technologies, with a strong focus on service and data base architectures. Thus, the ideal candidate would have advanced testing and performance profiling experience in a number of technologies across those domains About the Role: On our team, a software development engineer in test (SDET) is a software engineer who focuses on the tools and methods used to ensure that our systems behave in intended ways. This work ranges from formal modeling used to verify the design to frameworks that make it easier for other developers to write unit tests. The code is not a black box – if it needs to change to be testable, you can and should change it. This is not an SDET position where you write other people’s unit tests. CrowdStrike is a computer security company, but we do not expect candidates for this role to have prior security industry experience. We will mentor and train in security topics as needed. We do expect a strong interest in CrowdStrike’s mission and a willingness to grow into a position consulting on system design decisions and coordinating with other teams across the company. CrowdStrike is a remote-friendly organization and you’ll be collaborating with developers in many locations. Remote applicants in the US and Canada are welcome. UK, EU or Australia are also possible locations, but may require some flexibility in work hours. If you prefer the office life, CrowdStrike has engineering offices in Irvine (CA), Kirkland (WA), Minneapolis (MN), Sunnyvale (CA), London (UK) and Crystal City (VA). Occasional travel (<10%) is required. Responsibilities: Examine a feature and write a test strategy Evaluate features for risk, interior and exterior impact – what are the big problems, how we establish confidence? Identify needed test cases and coach developers on test development and coverage Develop test framework and test automation for developer use Design and write larger scale integration and end-to-end tests Participate in end-to-end component design Write the tests that aren’t naturally owned by other engineers, like app compatibility. Operate independently What You’ll Need: Find bugs just as interesting as features, and like breaking software as much as they like building and using it Are able to think about and analyze software with the explicit purpose of preventing bugs or making them easy to find Can communicate, collaborate, and work effectively in a distributed team Can program computers in a language used by the team (Python, C, C++) and can demonstrate that capability, be it through job experience, schoolwork, or contributions to community projects Understand fundamental computer science concepts like compilation or thread contention Have experience in analysis and implementation of data structures, algorithms, and software design Have experience with user and kernel debuggers (such as Windbg on Windows) and other performance profiling tools Can diagnose a bug from a user or kernel crash dump Experience testing databases, operating system services, or microservice architectures Bonus Points Awarded For: Ability to write and automate test cases, triage bugs, and write actionable bug reports Ability to read code with a focus on its robustness and security (or lack thereof) Ability to clearly define test strategies for features, and implement those strategies A track record of shipping quality software on high-reliability and performance-critical systems Experience working with programming language tools or broadly distributed systems Solid coding and debugging skills in Python, Go, C or C++ Experience with event processing systems Interest in finding problems, bugs, and inefficiencies at all scales, from very large cloud systems to binary representations #LI-NT1 #LI-Remote Benefits of Working at CrowdStrike: Remote-first culture Market leader in compensation and equity awards Competitive vacation and flexible working arrangements Comprehensive and inclusive health benefits Physical and mental wellness programs Paid parental leave, including adoption A variety of professional development and mentorship opportunities Offices with stocked kitchens when you need to fuel innovation and collaboration We are committed to fostering a culture of belonging where everyone feels seen, heard, valued for who they are and empowered to succeed.
